Founded in 1997, Step By Step has
served over 10,000 families in the
Pierce, King, and Snohomish Counties.


Step By Step’s founder Krista Linden was born with an entrepreneurial spirit. During her early experience as an elementary school teacher, she witnessed firsthand the negative effects on young children when they lacked a stable and healthy home. Having grown up in a positive and secure home, Krista’s passion for helping less fortunate mothers and babies was truly ignited, when she herself became a mother. With courage and tenacity, she launched Step By Step in 1997 to fill this vital and growing need in the Puget Sound region. 

Step By Step has grown from the dream and vision of its dedicated founder into a multi-faceted organization, operating with a team of 27 trained professional nurses, dietitians, and counselors. Step By Step has expanded its annual reach from less than 100 clients in its first year to approximately 1,200 per year.

Our mission is to transform the lives of at-risk pregnant women so they will deliver a healthy baby, embrace positive parenting, and establish a safe home.

Board of Directors

 

Dr. Stafford Loveland

Staff is retired from Boeing as an engineer in defense analysis.  He has a BS in Mathematics with a minor in Physics, and an MS in Computer Science from the University of Southern Illinois. He also has an MS and a PhD in Operations Research from the University of Florida.

David Lawson

Dave has a BA in Business Administration with a minor in Economics, graduated Cum Laude. He has 25 years of experience as a HR Generalist in organizations with both domestic and international markets. He is the EVP and Chief Human Resource Officer at Columbia Bank.

John David Terry II

John graduated from Tarkio College in 1974, received his JD at University of Puget Sound in 1977.  John was a partner with Williams & Terry from 1980-1990. John went on to be CEO at Law Offices of John David Terry II P.C. from 1990-2009.  John is retired.

Bill Brantley

Bill graduated from UW in 1967 with a BA in Business. Bill became a CPA in 1969.  Bill started his own CPA firm, Brantley, Janson and Yost, in 1975 where he worked until he retired in 1995.  Bill has served on many boards throughout his career, most recently for The Red Cross. He has also worked with World Vision, which included service in Bosnia, Kosovo and Albania.

Dan Shin

Dan graduated from University of Toronto in 1997 with a BA in Economics.  He graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School with his JD in 2000.  He has been a member of the WA bar since 2009.  Dan is a business and real estate attorney with Inslee Best in Bellevue.

Debbi Saint

Debbi is the Nurse Coordinator for Congregational Health Ministries at Franciscan Health System. She has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and over 30 years of experience in maternal-child health.

Katrina Asay

Former Mayor and State Representative, Katrina currently serves as President of the Milton Police Foundation, Vice President of the Multi-Service Center in Federal Way, and was recently appointed by the Governor to a 3 year term on the Public Disclosure Commission.

Krista Linden

Krista graduated from Bethel University in 1992 with a degree in Education.  Krista started Step By Step in 1997, is Founder and Executive Director of the organization, and is a non-voting member of the Board of Directors.
